Evidence of What Was Sown

My November Talk at ITC

Evidence of What Was Sown

(some of the personal stories not included, including the one inspiring the silly song I include at the end of this post.)

In November we celebrate Thanksgiving in the US. We gather with friends and family and begin what we often refer to as the holiday season. We look forward to the food, the festivities, the gifts. We enjoy family and friendships. These things are a reminder that we exist, that we live here in this physical existence.

But when you think of harvest and celebrating the reward of a year well lived I want you to consider the harvest on another level.

There are people hurting right now. People who don’t see anything evidence in their lives that good things are coming or that God sees them.

There are people who look around at what they have or what the holidays will be like and feel sadness rather than joy.

And their view is valid from our tthree-dimensionalstate of perception. What they are seeing with their human eyes doesn’t line up with the truth of abundance for all of us.

Your physical life is a reflection of your spiritual life. Your physical life is a reflection of your spiritual life.

It is the mirror of your spiritual life and that includes your spiritual practice and habits, your thoughts, what you tell yourself in your head, what you say out loud, your attitude towards life, your expectation of life, your feelings and passion. You put all that together, you mix it up, put it in the oven and it grows into a three-dimensional physical world.

The quality of your life doesn’t generally happen overnight – for better or worse. It’s a progression. The ingredients of all those things I mentioned, along with time, and consistency shape what you see.

A lot of people understand this. They see it as law of attraction and think that if I just think of getting a better job, I’ll attract it. Well, yes…and no… that thinking part is just one part.

Psalm 85:11-12

Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven. Yea, the LORD shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase.

It’s not about getting a better job. It’s about knowing already that all your needs are met. It’s about knowing already that there is enough to go around and that includes for you. It’s about changing your mind from I don’t have enough and need more to there is enough and it is my inheritance from God to enjoy that abundance. Change the mindset from lack to plenty.

Having abundance isn’t just about more money, a nicer car, bigger house. It’s knowing that you recognize and reap the harvest of abundance in multiple ways.

It’s a mindset of abundance. Once you get into that mindset, once you begin to understand that an abundance mindset attracts abundance on the spiritual level first and then flows to the physical level you will see it show up in your life.

But it begins on the spiritual level. It begins with trusting. With having faith. With understanding that God is going to do what God does. That the Universe is going to follow the laws of the Universe.

2 Cor 9:8

And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed;

When you begin to understand this, you can see how much power you have over the quality of your life in the long run and even spiritually in the short term. The physical lags behind the spiritual which is why we must have faith, trust, and believe that our good is coming when we put in the right ingredients.

So don’t be discouraged when things aren’t happening as fast as you want them, but believe me things are happening faster than they used to.

Luk 6:45

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

How do you, how do we do this?

The first step is to go in – meditate or be in the silence with Spirit and listen to your higher self

The second step is to change your language to be one of abundance and positivity – both the language you speak out loud and the language you say to yourself.

The third thing is to act like it. In my new book Heaven is Now: Enough Excuses there is an essay, Heaven is Now, that talks about making the choice to act like what it is you want to see in your life. Model the behavior whether you want an abundance of love, happiness, kindness, friendships, etcetera. Be that which you want.

If you want to harvest the blessings you must first root out the weeds that tell you the lies that you aren’t enough. Then, you plant the right seeds; you nurture your soil with living water; you shine your inner light on those seeds; and you trust that god will do what god does and make it grow.

Now go forth with an open heart, a willing mind, and a knowing spirit.

Interfaith Nondenominational Peace Prayer

I recently used this prayer at a prayer, meditation, and discussion service.

Eternal God, Creator of the universe
Great and wonderful are Your works, wondrous are your ways.
Thank You for the many-splendored variety of Your creation.
Thank You for the many ways we affirm Your presence and purpose,
and the freedom to do so.
Forgive our violation of Your creation.
Forgive our violence toward each other.
We stand in awe and gratitude for Your persistent love
for each and all of Your children of all faiths, beliefs, and understandings.
Grant to all and our leaders attributes of the strong:
mutual respect in words and deed,
restraint in the exercise of power, and
the will for peace with justice, for all.
Eternal God, Creator of the universe, there is no God but You. Amen.

I AM Still Strong, Smart, and Powerful Even if…

I am still as strong, smart, and powerful as I was yesterday and will be even stronger tomorrow. I know that change only truly happens at a much higher level, when we go within and become whole. When we do this collectively, it will show up on the outside, in what we see with our physical eyes. No party, candidate, or outside force can be the master of your spirit unless you give it permission.

I am a citizen of this country and while I will live to my greatest potential in this world, I will not forget that my deeper truth is not of this world. I will not forget that I am first and foremost a spiritual being having what feels like a very real human experience and I am sharing that experience with billions of others who cannot afford to forget this either.

Deeper Truth www.BernetteSherman.com

Hold onto your power, your strength, your inner goodness because it does exist everywhere and in everyone – even if you can’t see it with your physical eyes. Do not give that power away to anyone no matter what. Do not follow blindly, but rather with good and thoughtful consideration, good judgment, and in good conscious.
We move forward, beginning today. We have a choice in how we do it, just as we have a choice in all things. We also have a responsibility, a real responsibility to hold those who lead us accountable but also to hold them up and hold up our higher consciousness on their behalf.
I do not believe this election offered a chance for there to be any real winners but it offers us a chance to go higher, by searching within and loving more as we continue, collectively, in our efforts to be better.

Regardless of who you support or supported or how you feel about the candidates, we must move forward and the only way to do it right is to do it together, while remembering the truth of our power.

I love you. I choose higher.

I Wasn’t a Good Wife and I’m Glad

Copy of Bernette Sherman Speaker One Page(1)

For all the women who ever thought themselves unworthy, I share this.

I am a good wife because

I am not a worthy or good wife because I am not the Christian I should be. I don’t follow the biblical example. I don’t give my husband the respect he deserve at all times. I don’t make enough money for him to not feel like he’s got to carry me or that I’m not a financial burden…

The Artist to be Born - Thursday Thought

And it goes on for a couple more paragraphs. I berate myself as both a woman and a wife. I had not one thing to list under the “I am a good wife because” section, because at the time I really didn’t think there was anything about me that made me a good wife.

I came across several writings from when I was barely 25 and in the span of just a few pages I can see the broken person I once was alongside the dreamer I will always be. Even when no one else knows your pain or how you feel remember that time passes, new choices can be made, and if you take risks on your behalf your dreams can become real.

It was in August of this same year that I left traditional Christianity (that’s another story) and began the journey to wholeness where being broken, unworthy, and undeserving were no longer the standard of existence. I struggled for years in that marriage trying to do something impossible – please my husband. Just a matter of weeks after leaving my religion we were expecting our first child. I stayed in the marriage for nearly three more years but in that time, I never did become a good wife, despite trying. And you know what? I’m glad. Had I been successful in being what he wanted me to be at the detriment of my mental and emotional health, I would have never had the courage to be who I needed to be or who my daughter needed me to be.

Just a couple pages away in this little notebook from fifteen years ago, I also found this short writing dated one month after my 25th birthday.

The Artist to be Born

I believe that there is an artist inside of each and every one of us – a writer, painter, sculptor, actor, dancer musician. She is pregnant with anticipation at the birth of a new child. She is overdue and burdened by the extra load she bears, desiring to bring forth the artist who must be born. Her other children await with hope, happiness, fear, and anticipation of the newest arrival into the family. Will she be a great one? Will he change the way the world perceives us?

I often wonder, about myself and what expression of art I am to conceive. What is longing to be born from me? Longing for me to grow so something new can be discovered. She, like a mother, wants to be proud of me. She expects great things. I know that it is my challenge and I cannot let her down. She has born great ones. She has born those who’ve revolutionized the world. She’s even bore the ones who you nor I will ever know for their achievements weren’t marked in the great pages of history. She bore the starving artist, that we may never forget the dream or the effort. She bore the stand-in and the extras that we would retain humility. She bore the backup singer that we would never forget the contribution of another in our lives.

What will my experience be? How will I affect the world? What is my expression? Am I willing and ready to see it born? Will I allow myself to be challenged, that I might rise to it and perhaps be that great one? Will I allow myself to be one who changes the perception of the world?

I share this now, as a forty-year old mother of two, happily remarried, and finally embracing the artist within as a writer of fiction and non-fiction. The young woman who wrote both of these things is now free. There was an artist wanting to be born from me, wanting to contribute to the world, and little did I know fifteen years ago when I wrote this that I would find it the same year that I finally gave birth.

Are you still waiting to give birth to your inner artist? What will your experience be? How will you affect the world? What is your expression? Are you willing and ready to see it born? Will you allow yourself to be challenged, that you might rise to it and perhaps be that great one? Will you allow yourself to be one who changes the perception of the world?
